Relishing the quiet

Many times at the end of the day I feel so drained, it takes the entire evening to recover. Often, the most draining part of the day is putting the kids to bed.

And instead of the quiet evening to recharge that I anticipated all day, I’m a limp mess trying to gather my wits and form a coherent sentence.

Can you relate?

I need some transition from bedtime to work time (I work from home at night). Dare I even ask for some downtime and spouse bonding time in between bedtime and getting to work?

Yet sometimes it feels like I never transition from the bedtime chaos at all.

And then I stay up way beyond what I need to for work – relishing the quiet with everyone asleep. I spend time then, just being. I love it.

Repercussions

Staying up late relishing the quiet means I wake up tired and cranky the next day. My toddler and pre-schooler aren’t really sleeping in types. And I also have older kids to get off to school – the day starts bright and early in these parts!

I am caught in the cycle of being overtired during the day, spending energy on not being grumpy that could be better spent on being present and loving and responding appropriately for the situation.

And then comes bedtime.

When yelling-emotionally-distant-mom (aka me) makes an appearance.

And we start the whole cycle again.

My mission: finding a better way
